Developing Intuition

3 Essential Steps to Developing Intuition

Developing intuition is something that everyone would love to do.  What most people don’t realize is that everyone has this ability.  It can be as simple as three steps.  Let’s start first with what you already know about intuition, even if you don’t intuitively think you do.

Intuition is essentially the hunch, or sense, that a person gets about something.  This feeling often persuades a person to think or act in a certain way.  It helps to inform one’s decisions.  More than likely, this has already happened to you and you might not know it.

For example, imagine that you are heading to work one day, and then for some unexplainable reason, you decide not to go in.  You have a feeling that something is not right, and you stay home without really even knowing why.  Well, this is exactly what happened to many of the survivors of 9/11 who did not go to work at the towers that day.  Their intuition informed them not to.

Intuition is that insightful inkling to change something without exactly knowing why you think or feel that way.

Intuition should not be confused with instinct which is a very physical, or primal, drive to act in a specific manner, typically related to survival.  Intuition is more like a cerebral instinct, that feeling you get that you should act differently, a sixth sense.  Having said that most people can tap into this sense intuitively, what can you do if you want to actively develop this sense?

There are three essential steps to developing intuition

Step One: Recognize your natural ability to be intuitive and encourage this feeling.

If, for example, you have a hunch about something (an event, a relationship, a job, etc.), follow that hunch.  Use your own life experience to identify and practice the ability.  Practice using random situations as they arise but use focused specific problems as well to work out more complicated situations that may arise in the future.  Also, examine your five physical senses and how connected you are to the world around you.  Sometimes this look can be revealing about how submersed or disconnected you may be to your own life.

Step Two:  Examine your intuitive choices and study them and their outcomes.

Once you have begun to practice, take a close look at the actual situations and their results.  Slow yourself down enough to be aware of your surroundings and the perceptions that are coming to you.  If you followed your intuition, what was the environment, either personal or spiritual, that allowed for a positive outcome?  How does your intuition work best?  Are there situations that you are more or less in tune with?  Do you find that there are blocks to strong, positive intuition?  If so, what are they and how can you recognize them earlier?  It is this close examination that will allow you to really fuel your natural abilities with information to enlighten your future intuition.

Step Three: Stay connected with your divine higher power and spiritual awareness.

This step can seem difficult at first, but it is crucial for powerfully developed intuition.  One must stay connected to the spiritual plane in order to connect with the sixth sense of intuition.  Being overly connected to the material world can block intuition.  Your faith with also help you learn to trust in your own intuition and build your self-esteem around your abilities.  Additionally, it is important for you to be able to see the differences between the spiritual and intuitive world as opposed to the material and physical world.  It is within these distinctions that lay the very foundations of intuition.

A final thought

A personal journal is highly recommended for each of these steps to not only document what you learn but also to allow you to reflect on your intuition and grow from your experiences.  It can serve as both a release for negativity and a window for positive growth.  Journaling often also allows you to ignite imagination, spiritual sight, and therefore personal wisdom.

In the end, developing intuition will allow you to trust yourself and give you confidence about the personal choices that you make and the creativity you possess.  And even more importantly, it connects you to the greater powers of the spiritual world to be guided through life.
